French Onion Soup

Gather your ingredients: onions, butter, broth, bread, cheese, and garlic. You will also need a large pot and an oven-safe bowl for serving. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Sauté Onions and Garlic



In a large pot, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and minced garlic, stirring occasionally until caramelized and golden brown (about 20-25 minutes).
Add Broth


Pour in the broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 20 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Prepare Bread and Cheese


While the soup simmers, cut the bread into slices and grate the cheese. After 20 minutes, ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Top with bread and sprinkle with cheese.
Broil to Melt Cheese
Place the bowls under the broiler for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Watch closely to prevent burning.
